Black Without Apology

Supporting Amaze through Poetry

What's with I?

When I say I'm black

Some ask,"Why did you say that?",

As if I should feel guilt

Not knowing it's my identity

Black is Beautiful

I'm a black without apology

Some family want to hide I

Some want I to hide,

Pretend I'm not black

Just a man without identity

Black skin is my identity

I'm black without apology

Some can't accept my skin colour

They just think I look strange

It's a fancy I've taken up

This is my identity

Black is Beautiful

I'm black without apology

Some want to invite I to certain ways,

Just like back in the old days

When I reject they're offended

As if they don't see such I've ended

I'm black without apology

Some want I to be shy

Some want I to hide I views,

Even to the point where I lie

They just don't want I loud and proud

Black is Beautiful

I'm black without apology

I carry myself with dignity

I define my reality

Black is my identity

You might be ashamed of me,

But I'm not ashamed of myself

Black is Beautiful

I'm black without apology.
